FAQ
Q: How do I enter the Goldie Awards?
A: You must complete our submission form linked below, and upload a public video to one or both of the following platforms using the hashtag #GoldieAwards2019: Instagram or YouTube. Failure to do both will disqualify you.
Q: Can I enter this year if I entered or competed last year?
A: Yes! As long as you create a new submission video, bring it on.
Q: What kind of equipment is allowed in the DJ Battle? Do I have to use turntables?
A: Contestants can use any combination of equipment that they want for their submission video, as long as it includes at least 1 turntable or CDJ. For the live battle, Goldie Awards will provide Technics SL1200 turntables and Pioneer CDJ2000’s, as well as mixers. Contestants will be allowed to bring their own mixer, controllers, and any other equipment they wish to use.
Q: What kind of equipment is allowed in the live Beat Battle?
A: Contestants can bring their beats on a flash drive and play them on a CDJ, plug in their own controllers / laptops, or they can use a line jack.
Q: In the beat battle, are the beats supposed to be performed live?
A: It’s up to the contestant. The beat battle is focused on the music. Whether the contestant wants to just press play or reproduce the beat with pads is up to them. Same applies to submission videos for this category.
Q: In the beat battle, can producers use a known vocal or acappella over their beats?
A: No, using any known vocal or acappella, regardless of source, would be a disqualifying factor for beat battle submissions and live show.
Q: How long should the submission video be? How many tracks should be included?
A: Up to one minute in length, and can include as many tracks as you want. Impress us!
Q: Can an applicant enter both categories?
A: No.
Q: Is this battle open to people outside the US?
A: Yes! This is an international battle so submissions are open worldwide. Wherever you’re from you can enter, and if you’re selected as a finalist we’ll fly you to New York for the battle!
Q: Are teams allowed in either category?
A: No.
Q: Are microphones allowed in either category?
A: No.
Q: Can I apply to Goldie Awards and another DJ competition?
A: Yes! As long as the other competitions do not forbid this, you can enter Goldie Awards and another competition at the same time.
Q: Can I incorporate acoustic instruments into my video? What about the live round?
A: Yes to both!
Q: Would I be permitted to use a synthesized vocal produced from a synthesizer and preset pack I own?
A: Yes!
Q: Can I remake a known tune, melody, or song for one of my beat patterns, but using my own original synth, samples, instruments, etc.?
A: Yes!
Q: How do I send a link to my submission video from Instagram? From Youtube?
A: For Instagram on desktop, simply copy the URL for your post direct from your browser’s address bar. On mobile, click the “…” in the top right corner above your post, select “Share” and then select “Copy Link” at the bottom of the page. You’ll then be able to paste the link to your video into the submission form. For YouTube on both desktop and mobile, simply click the Share arrow and copy the link that appears. You’ll then be able to paste the link to your video into the submission form.
Q: Still have a question that we didn’t answer?
